How would your carrot like to tweet up with my potato for a bit of potage bonne forme? Closet Chef, Steve @visitconkers is offering to Ready Steady Cook a dish for our delight, if we can bring a veggie for @philcampbell to twitpic whilst I compose an ode to the Cauldron of ConkerTU!
Seriously though, we can only campaign effectively if we nurture our sense of fun, so why not infect ConkerTU with a little laughter? What better gift can we share on Buy Nothing Day than the soulfood of a shared creation to nourish our zero-carbon thoughts?
If you’re new to this site, forgive us! Steve, Phil and I have been working on ConkerTU for little more than a month. Sharing sustainable lifestyles is a mission for us – I think you’ll save money, Steve believes you’ll save the planet and Phil knows he can connect people who want to share ideas.
Maybe we are ideallists, but we’ve done this at short notice because we think it needs to happen now. There are too many arguments about the economy and climate change to make easy sense of it, yet each have folk we can rely on in a crisis and sustainability helps us to strengthen such networks.
Whilst “vegetal inclusion” is the jokey banter of a tired team, there is a certain poetry in the promordial soup of new beginnings. To take part in our light relilef, you will need to bring a home or locally grown vegetable – that’s it – except to say that we do have alternative sustenance for the less adventurous amongst you!

Woop woop for all you public transport devotees out there! In the true spirit of Buy Nothing Day The Green Bus Company has agreed to provide us with a totally free service from Tamworth Station to Conkers and back for the ConkerTU launch on Saturday 28th November.
Remember that Tamworth Station has excellent North-South and East-West connections on Virgin, London Midland and Cross Country trains, making ConkerTU incredibly easy to get to.
But The Green Bus is no ordinary bus, not only is it green, but it is WIFI and GPS enabled so all you live event bloggers out there can start tweeting from the minute you get off the train! How’s that for a digitial diversion?!
Combined with the superb package that The Peel Hotel in Tamworth have offered to all our ConkerTU guests, I am beginning to feel disappointed that I don’t have further to travel myself!
Phil intends to hook up with Michael at The Green Bus Company in the very near future, so we can get you some footage to show just how cool your journey to and from ConkerTU is going to be. In the meantime, I am nearing an outcome with the car-sharing arrangements and hope to have yet more accommodation options, ideally within walking distance of Conkers, for these guests also.
As ever, big thanks to Jonathan O’Farrell of @Ibstock_does and @RichardBeldon ofLets Go Local for all the additional hints, tips and pointers towards useful local contacts. Judging by these guys’ enthusiasm, I have to say you’re in for a hearty welcome in the Heart of the Forest!

conkers is totally kid ready - i thought this little video would help you decide. my two year old, ella - loved it. lots to do for the family so you could make a day of it. remember we have free access for the day for the sessions and to the site. we do hope you’ll support us and the event. you can use your facebook or twitter details to sign up to the event free of charge. we will have some transport arranged from tamworth railway station so you have plenty of options to get into conkers. we are also looking into venues that people can stay out locally the evening before and we might have a pre-drinks gather. more soon! :)
